Sacraments

A sacrament is a visible sign, rooted in Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection, that gives grace. It is a ritual action celebrated within the community of faith (the worshiping community) through the power of the Holy Spirit. The sacraments are for the Body of Christ, the Church, to keep the Body of Christ dynamic, alive, and reaching out with Christ’s love to the world. Often the Seven Sacraments are divided into three groups: the Sacraments of Initiation, the Sacraments of Healing, and the Sacraments in Service of Communion.

The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

The Sacraments of Healing are Reconciliation (Penance or Confession) and the Anointing of the Sick.

The Sacraments in Service of Communion are Marriage and Holy Orders.
